A Place to Belong
Church Bulletin
Sunday: 12th April 2026
Welcome to Hillside Church. We are so glad you chose to join us today. In our Sunday service, you will encounter people who have experienced great Joy, loss or brokenness in their lives. Romans 12:15 puts it best, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep". The Struggle is Real, but God is Real.
We believe the best way to experience God on Sunday is to connect organically. We do this through heartfelt worship, praying for needs, sharing the truth of God's Word, and sharing in each others lives through connection. We invite you to be a part of the Hillside family!

TODAY’S SERVICE
Sermon Title:
Persecution Built the Church
The early church was born at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit dramatically filled 120 discouraged followers of Jesus, empowering them to preach boldly. Peter’s message led to 3,000 conversions, launching a movement built on Jesus’ death and resurrection.
What began as a threat to Jewish religious leaders (especially the Sadducees) resulted in the first persecution: Peter and John were arrested after healing a crippled man and preaching in Jesus’ name. Instead of stopping the movement, their night in jail led to 5,000 more believers.
The authorities marveled at the boldness of these “uneducated and untrained” men and recognized they had been with Jesus.
Key Lessons:
Persecution, meant to crush the church, actually caused it to grow and spread.
In trials, two things happen: people marvel, and they see evidence that you’ve truly been with Jesus.
God is not sidelining you in hardship—He invites you into deeper intimacy with Him as your Rock, Fortress, Shield, and Shelter (Psalm 18:2).
Like the early church and modern testimonies (including the pastor’s son and friend Al), faith in Christ turns “been-through-stuff” stories into powerful witnesses that point others to Jesus.
The church’s identity: We’ve been through stuff… but by God’s grace, we came out on the other side with Jesus.
