What to Expect

Walking into a church for the first time can feel a little uncertain. At Hillside, you’ll find a welcoming church family made up of huggers, hand-shakers, young and old, and everyone in between.

We are not interested in pretending that life is perfect. We celebrate one another’s victories, walk together through disappointments, and make room for honest stories. We believe church is more than a service we attend; it is a family in which we share life, encounter God, and grow together.

Our Sunday gathering has three main parts:

Embrace Intimacy

We begin with approximately 30 minutes of contemporary worship.

This is a time to turn our attention toward God, experience His presence, and respond to Him in a way that feels natural. You are welcome to stand, sit, sing, pray, or simply take it all in.

During worship, members of our prayer team are available to pray with anyone who would like encouragement, healing, or support. There is never any pressure—just an open invitation to receive prayer in a caring and respectful environment.

Embrace People

About halfway through our gathering, we take approximately 10 minutes to connect with one another.

Grab a cup of coffee and a donut, say hello to someone new, catch up with a friend, or share a little of your story. It may feel different from the usual quick church greeting and that is intentional.

Relationships need more than a passing handshake. We make space for real connection because we believe that sharing life is an important part of being the Church. Every story matters!

Embrace the Word

We then spend approximately 30 minutes learning from the Word of God.

Our teaching is biblical, practical, and intended to help us follow Jesus in everyday life. We want Scripture to do more than inform us, we want it to transform the way we think, live, love, and relate to the people around us.

You don’t need to be a Bible expert. Come with your questions, your experiences, and a willingness to grow. We are all learning together.

Come As You Are

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you visit Hillside. Whether you have followed Jesus for many years, are returning to church after some time away, or are simply exploring faith, there is room for you here.

Some of us are outgoing. Some are quiet. Some give hugs, some prefer handshakes, and some are most comfortable with a friendly smile. Wherever you are in life, we want you to feel seen, valued, and welcomed.

This is church as family—a place to belong, a place to grow, and a place to share life together.

There’s a Place for You

The best way to discover Hillside is to experience it for yourself. Join us this Sunday and come as you are. We would love to meet you, hear your story, and welcome you into the family.

History

Hillside Church has served the Redding community for more than seventy years. Our story reaches back to March 13, 1952, when the congregation was incorporated as The Redding Assembly of God.

As the church grew and established its home on Twin View Boulevard, it entered a new chapter. In 1981, the congregation officially became Twin View Church of the Assemblies of God. For more than thirty years, people in Redding knew the church by the Twin View name.

In 2012, under the leadership of Harold Johnson and the church board, the congregation adopted the name Hillside Church of the Assemblies of God. The new name marked another season in the life of the same church family.

In 2015, Lead Pastor Darrell and Gina Farley were installed as leaders at Hillside Church. Today, alongside Executive Pastor Rob and Nicky Weir and a faithful family of leaders and volunteers, Hillside continues to be a place where people of every age and background can encounter God and find genuine belonging.

Buildings, leaders and ministry expressions have changed over the decades, but our heart remains the same: to worship God, grow through His Word and walk through life together. We celebrate successes, carry one another through failures and loss, and make room for every generation. At Hillside, church is more than a service we attend—it is a family in which we grow together.
